Sir Alex Ferguson has hailed Manchester United’s iconic striker Dwight Yorke, describing him as “fantastic from day one”, as per ESPN FC.

The former Trinidad and Tobago international fired the Red Devils to three Premier League titles during his four-year stint at Old Trafford, as he scored 48 goals while establishing a fearsome strike partnership with Andy Cole.

Yorke proved instrumental in his first season at the club after joining from Aston Villa, guiding Sir Alex’s side to a historic treble-winning season.

And the legendary United manager has praised how quickly Yorke adapted to life in Manchester, hailing his “immediate response.”

“[Van Gaal has] certainly made a lot of changes and he’s bought (six) new players this year and, I think, five or six new players the year before,” said Sir Alex. “That takes time and it’s not easy. Coming to Manchester United, you do need time.

“In my time, there was maybe Dwight Yorke who gave an immediate response. He was fantastic from day one. They are not always like that; he was an exception. It normally takes some time, particularly if they come from abroad, to settle in.”

Yorke netted 18 Premier League goals during his debut season at Old Trafford to be named the club’s leading scorer in 1998/98, only finishing behind Michael Owen and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink in the race for the division’s Golden Boot.
